Hopefully there is enough definitive information found in these photos to allow someone familiar with moth and butterfly larva to make an identification of the species. At the moment, however, I’m not sure if this larvae is a butterfly or a moth.

Caterpillar on sesbania plant
I had thought the tail-like extensions would allow me to zero in quickly, but my printed resources haven’t really helped me much (mostly my fault, I’m sure).

Note the “tails”
Thus, until the mystery is solved, I’ll just call this one a “sesbania” caterpillar in honor of the Sesbania macrocarpa plant on which I found it.
