Spider Lilies – A Fall Treat

One has to be careful where and how one mows the yard in the later summer and early fall so that one does not inadvertently mow down the developing spider lilies.

Apparently these flowers develop quickly and seem to just appear out of nowhere.  One day green dominates the yard and the next day the yard is filled with splashes of red.

The red flowers are delicate and lovely to view, but they don’t last too long before they begin to fade.

These plants also seem to have a mind of their own as to where they will grow.  I’ve not tried to cultivate and manicure them – I just enjoy them when and where they pop up.
