Tree Roots – I


A series of tree root system adaptations to wetland and riparian environments are illustrated and discussed using field examples from various locations across the country.

Features discussed and illustrated include:

  • adventitious roots on willow trees
  • baldcypress knee/root systems
  • sweetbay and tupelo gum “root wads” and hypertropied lenticels
  • streamside sycamore and cottonwood root systems
